About this listing
Number Forty Two.
According to Douglas Adams the author of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the number forty two is the meaning of life, the universe and everything.
Awake in the white cloud of a queen bed between warm rammed earth walls with an intimate view of the secluded bush garden.
Take breakfast on the sun-drenched side terrace with the smell of bacon and eggs flowing from the fully fitted kitchen.
Stroll into town only a street away and peruse the shops and pass the time with a coffee watching the world go by.
Wander home in a couple of minutes for a lunch on the back deck with cold meats from the butchers and fresh bread from the veggie shop or bakery.
Play with your dog along the creek in the park behind the house.
Take an afternoon walk or ride down the adjacent rail trail and past the public pool.
If you are feeling adventurous ride to the mountain bike park or all the way down the Epic Trail to Yackanadah and back.
A quick change, then out to one of the amazing restaurants, pubs, wine bars or the brewery for dinner.
Walk home full and contented to settle into the lounge for a read with the kids playing a game on their huge twin beds in their adjacent room.
Finally, a long hot shower or bath and off back into the cloud of a bed…. Life, the universe, and everything.
I am an architect and in 2000 designed and built this intimate rammed earth house with a curving
roof and lots of windows for my mum who would come from England every year until she was 94.
Like her, Number Forty Two is forever young. It was perfect for her and would be perfect now for an
individual, couple or family of four.
The recently refurbished house has two bedrooms, with one queen bed and two king sized singles. The kitchen has all you need to cook including an integrated convection oven and microwave, a pod coffee machine and dishwasher for your convenience.
The dining space seats four or even six if you have guests and flows onto the side terrace with a café
table for two.
The living space has a three-seat lounge and a single armchair with a great view out over the outdoor setting on the deck to the green tree filled garden.
The bathroom has a bath with an over bath shower, toilet, vanity, hair dryer and washing machine and plenty of hot water.
Pets are welcome with a one off fee. There is even an architect designed, and well loved, outside dog kennel with bed.
Please be mindful the the house steps down with the slope of the land so there is a “bridge” at the front door. Steps down into the house and two sets of steps in the house. Likewise, there is a car spot with a short steep gravel driveway or there is plenty of free parking on the street.
So, if you are an individual, couple or family coming for the night, the weekend, or the week then
this is the place for you. Compact but expansive, bright but cosy, close to town but seemingly away
from everything. A home away from home or a stop along the way, Number Forty Two is simply life, the
universe and everything.
Please note: there is a one off pet fee if you are staying with pets
